So here we are! Christmas Holidays are over, but the Winter season is in full swing! When the temperatures outside are below zero (at least in Saint-Petersburg), and the daylight hours are still very short, how can we have fun? Watching movies of course!
The Winter season brings with it a great deal of coziness. To tell you the truth I’m dreaming of the perfect night with a warm blanket, a glass of red wine, and a good movie. And if you're a crazy movie-enthusiast like me you need this list!

My winter movie list features pick both old and new, classic and modern, and I also included different genres- from family and rom-com films to horror and thriller- to spice it up a bit!
So prepare some delicious treats, a warm blanket, maybe light a few candles, and enjoy!
Winter’s Tale (2014) - romantic fantasy film based on the 1983 novel Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin set in a mythic New York City
The Family Stone (2005) - a rom-com with adorable Sarah Jessica Parker
Wind River (2017) - a gripping murder mystery-thriller starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' (2005)- the famous family-friendly fantasy. Based on a 1950 novel from in C. S. Lewis's children's fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
The Shining (1980)- the classics of the horror genre! Based on a novel by Steven King and the absolute must-see movie! Really scary one!
I, Tonya (2017)- a biographical black comedy based on unbelievable, but true events about American figure skater Tonya Harding.
Serendipity (2001)- a heartwarming romantic comedy with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale
Vertical Limit (2000)- a dramatic thriller about climbing Mount Everest.
Trading places (1983)- a very funny classic comedy starring Eddie Murphy, Dan Ackroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
When Harry Met Sally (1989)- one of the most classic rom-com ever.
Groundhog Day (1993)- comedy classic set in a small-town starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell
Little women (2019) - a period drama film by Greta Gerwig the newest version of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel
8 Women (2002) - French whodunnit musical film, written and directed by François Ozon
Eyes Wide Shot (1999)- the classic and masterpiece directed by Stanley Kubrick. This erotic mystery drama is Based on the 1926 novella Traumnovelle (Dream Story) by Arthur Schnitzler.
The Hateful Eight (2015)- western thriller film was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. I have not seen it yet😬
A Simple Plan (1998)- neo-noir crime thriller directed by Sam Raimi starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, and Bridget Fonda.
